A day to stitch; careful, tiny, thoughtful stitches.
In and out, they follow the curving line of 6B, traced round the edge of a pattern born from a peach sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper. It is someone else's instructions I follow (Lirio's in fact), and though they are vague, I am enjoying having room for some of my own interpretation.
The instructions say to make the stitches tiny... as tiny as you can make them:
"we will be using a running stitch that will show when the doll is finished
so we will be trying to make the smallest stitches that we possibly can"
I tried to follow this advice, first inning and outing from the top, weaving the needle in and out as close to the last stitch as possible.
Then I wondered if I could make them even tinier if I push the thread through from front to back, pull it taught, and then bring the needle through from the back to the front as close as possible to the exit hole the thread had come to the back from. This produced very nice stitches on the top side, but when I turn it over, there were some stitches that were so small they require magnification. I don't think they're supposed to be as tiny as this... otherwise, what is the point of using the most delightful cherry red thread?
I can't wait for the next step!
And now for something else slow to match up with this day... I'm going to make some pizzaa dough. Mmmmmm... potluck pizza night!

so beautiful, erika! i always love your stitches. what you wrote reminded me of a yoga teacher i had, who had us moving in circles, and then would say "slow down... slow down... slow down..." and our circles would get infinitely slower just when we thought we were going our slowest. i hope you had a wonderful small-stitching day that day.
